![]() Our Commitment to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative ® (SFI) program. Washington Alder LLC, Cascade Hardwood LLC and Port Angeles Hardwood LLC purchase all of their Hardwood logs on the open market from wood producers in the States of Washington and Oregon. Our companies are totally dependent on the Hardwood log resource to provide viable jobs in the communities where we operate. It is essential for our vendors to practice sustainable forestry to meet our present needs without compromising the needs of future generations. We are committed to and participate in the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) program, which practices a land stewardship ethic of principles, objectives and performance measures that integrate Best Management Practices (BMPs) and Forest Practice Rules and Regulations. We encourage our vendors to practice the sustainable growing and harvesting of trees for useful products, to promptly reforest following harvest, and to promote the conservation of soil, air and water quality and the protection of biological diversity, wildlife habitat, recreational use, and natural aesthetics. The SFI program is reviewed and updated every five years by the Board of Directors of the SFI, Inc. Independent third party auditors annually certify that our company’s procurement practices are in compliance with the SFI program. We therefore encourage all suppliers to be aware of Sustainable Forestry Initiative Standard (SFIS) “Objectives for Procurement” Objectives 8 through 13. We encourage landowners and suppliers to utilize qualified resource and logging professionals to manage their activities and practice the principles of sustainable forestry. Please examine our SFI Brochure for more information and SFI related contacts. |
